Airline reservations and passenger service

Ranked 20 of 35 at 56.5 out of 100.

Reservation, inventory, ticketing and departure-control platforms for airlines.

What the evidence says

The checked evidence corroborates bounded airline-PSS pain. Southwest’s CEO called its Altéa unification the largest technology initiative in company history. The reported programme ran three years with over 1,500 people. ANA’s own release describes temporary service differences during its phased migration.

Providers

The card checked three incumbents: Amadeus Altéa, Sabre and Hitit’s Crane. Amadeus reports 130-plus Altéa airline customers. Sabre’s filing reports about 695 million passengers boarded in FY2025. Hitit reports 900-plus Crane DCS airports across 160 countries. The denominators are incompatible. No ranking is supported.

FLYR is the recorded challenger. Its May 2026 release names Riyadh Air as first full-service Offer and Order customer. Its AI-native status is recorded as unknown.

The pain

Decades-old fragmented systems create a recurring unification burden. ANA ran separate domestic and international systems since 1988.

PSS migrations are multi-year, cross-organisation programmes. Sabre’s filing says implementations typically take 12 to 18 months.

Sources:

Events

Southwest completed its Altéa transition in May 2017. All flights at 101 airports moved to one platform.

ANA announced single-platform integration in February 2023. Phased airport cutovers were scheduled from May through June 2026. The plan is announced, not a completed migration.

Limits

Sabre’s 12-to-18-month language is a general risk disclosure, not a per-project measure. Two single-organisation anecdotes do not establish prevalence. Both events are modernisation programmes, not failures.
