Retail point of sale and merchandising

Ranked 25 of 35 at 54 out of 100.

Store POS, merchandising and inventory platforms for retail chains.

What the evidence says

The checked evidence corroborates bounded pain. One vendor release narrates dissatisfaction in a prior POS estate. A named 135-location chain took a challenger platform live at one store. The wider rollout is a stated plan, not a completed displacement.

Providers

The card checked three incumbents: Toshiba, NCR Voyix and Aptos. Toshiba reports at least 2.6 million installed POS and self-checkout units. NCR Voyix reports 80,000 billed commerce-platform sites at year-end 2025. Aptos’s figures are a 2015 launch snapshot: 122,000 stores, 500-plus brands. The units are incompatible. No ranking is supported.

Tote is the recorded challenger. Its February 2026 release covers fuel-and-convenience POS on existing hardware. The AI-native label is the issuer’s own classification.

The pain

A vendor release describes a legacy POS estate behind shopper expectations. The dissatisfaction is vendor-narrated, not spoken by the buyer.

Fuel-price changes previously required dialing into each store. Everyday till friction eased after one flagship deployment, per the release.

Events

Huck’s Market took Tote live at its Carmi flagship in February 2026. The 135-store rollout is a stated end-2026 plan, not a completed displacement. The deployment does not prove the prior estate’s core was obsolete.

Limits

All pain evidence is the challenger’s own marketing release. No incumbent or oversight adverse testimony was retained. One live flagship is not a fleet-wide result.
