What the evidence says
The checked evidence corroborates the 3.6 pain score in kind. Tribal’s FY2024 review describes technical debt and unmodernised integrations in student systems. Lehigh plans a five-year transition of its Banner ecosystem to SaaS. The challenger frames manual compliance pipelines in company-authored text.
Providers
The card checked three incumbents: Ellucian, Tribal Group and PowerSchool. Ellucian reports about 3,000 customers in one place and 2,900 in another. The two vendor figures are unreconciled snapshots on an undated page. Tribal reports over 500 institutions for the year ended December 2024. PowerSchool’s filing reports over 17,000 customers and over 50 million students. The three figures are not comparable. No ranking is supported.
Scout is the recorded challenger. Its adoption and AI-native label rest on company-authored text retained by YC. No independent verification is in the checked set.

The pain
Student systems accumulate technical debt and resource strain. Tribal’s CEO review names integrations never modernised and inefficient processes.
Legacy systems consume resources that would otherwise fund strategic work. Lehigh’s SIS modernisation is a planned five-year programme, not a swap.

Events
Lehigh’s Future Ready project kicked off in fall 2024. Two payroll tools went live in September 2025. Its projected benefits are not yet measured results.
Exeter moved 24 years of on-premise SITS to Tribal Cloud in six months. That is a faster successful migration, retained as a counter-signal.
